Became president of the HOA

Wasn't actually planning on that, but I'm going to count it anyway.

Giveaway, Part 1

Would anyone like a bagful of women's shoes, size 10/10w?
How about little beaded evening bags?
Or plastic hangers? They're very sturdy.

Hey, Look Me Over

Talked to The Realtor (fille) and two loan officers today. The news, more-or-less in order of arrival:
- The Realtor (père) is turning 70, and the party is this weekend.
- The taxes on the place are arcane, and I must contact the city assessor for details.
- I have an appointment to walk through the place with The Realtor (fille) next Thursday, lunchtime, and check out the new window and the exhaust fan in the bathroom.
- I should have been clearer sooner with the current loan officer about having talked to one of her colleagues four months ago. Five hours after I said "we did this before," I got a call from the first loan officer saying I'm approved. I'm to fax over more documents and the underwriter still has to rubber-stamp the thing, but we have a go.
- Someone will be calling about homeowner's insurance. Which I will need, because the building is not on bedrock.

I finished the day with "Hey, Look Me Over" playing in my head. It's the only song I know with the word 'mortgage' in the lyrics.

And so I'm back

The trip was lovely: much lazing about and playing with Tiger. Tiger is adorable. I think he likes me. His parents are nice, too. :)

New need

I've decided I need bread earrings. That way, I can make "bread and honey" (with the bees) or "bread and roses" (with the roses).

Sadly, everything google is showing me is too cutesy.

New season of Survivor!

Started off by letting us know that the contestants as a whole are the usual run of agist sexists, and by telling us that two contestants in particular are not all that bright. Seriously, why would someone think that saying, "I look sickly because I'm currently sick enough to be taking antibiotics," would convince people that they'd made a mistake in voting for her? Don't get it.

Anyway - some people are clearly just going to get more annoying, while a couple have the potential to be great fun. And it all ended in a blindside. Should be a decent season.

More review

My boss took me for a smoothie. She told me I'm doing great and we talked about the future of the company. It was most warm & fuzzy.

Later, she handed around SP debate bingo cards. Turns out everyone in the office except me was planning to watch.

Had a drink with the nice realtor lady

We had a nice chat about what I was looking for, how long it might take to find, that sort of thing. We shall see...

Came home, checked Craigslist, found the city's affordable housing program. Two units, a touch small but otherwise perfect, are up for lottery week after next. Must submit ap...

After work

I took myself to Stacey's, where I picked up the new Donna Andrews. Inspired by the title, I took myself to Fancy Restaurant for a drink and some dinner. The maitre d' dude promptly handed me a copy of Salinger's Nine Stories and talked Salinger while I drank my cocktail and ate my spring rolls. Then he wandered off to do work and I read Salinger and ate my burger.

My dinner came with a reading assignment.

I got very little done today

Ever had the kind of day where you're rolling the rock up the hill, not making a lot of progress, but the end is in sight... and a stack of paper falls on the rock, knocks it away from you and rolls it halfway back down the hill? And then you meet a friend and have a couple glasses of wine al fresco?

That was my day.

Been a Long, Long Time

....When only a few billion cosmic cycles had been completed, there was a gash in the clock-rock that you could hide a horse in. The little bird made very many journeys back to sharpen its beak. And Pithekos Pete, the most rapid of the monkeys, had now random-written The Tempest, complete and perfect. They shook hands all around, monkeys and angel. It was something of a moment.

The moment did not last. Pete, instead of pecking at furious random to produce the rest of the plays, wrote his own improved version of The Tempest. Boshel was furious.

"But it's better, Bosh," Pete protested. "And I have some ideas about stagecraft that will really set this thing up...."

I'm a walking folio

Met the Landed Gentry for bookshopping & dinner. We had triple chocolate for dessert, so I sang on the way home. Sugar makes me sing. And recite poetry. I guess that's not so different than without the sugar...
