Parasol salt shakers: Mended!

I collected them today. They are charming as ever, and now they work! (Still need polishing.) I'm so glad the pawnshop moved in downstairs and brought their repair dude with them.

Why, yes, my failure to plan IS your emergency.

Got an email this afternoon from the head IT dude, saying that people were hassling him for the new Schedule B, and when would it be ready. "Huh?" I replied. "What new Schedule B?" "The one they're hassling me for," he said.

I looked around, and discovered that there was indeed a new Schedule B, posted mid-February and effective yesterday. I said, "Oops." Then I compared the new book to the old book, and the new one is twice as long. Literally. The old one was 8800 lines long; the new one is 17,500. I said, "@$%@#."

D and J are in charge of the minions around here. I went to J, told him my problem, and he pulled his two minions off their current jobs and pitched in himself. I went D, told him my problem, and he said, basically, "that's nice." I went back to D, told him that the customers want this done as of yesterday, could I use his minion B? And D said, as soon as B's done with the thing I assigned him this morning... probably next week sometime. WTF? We've got to add 9,000 lines to a database one at a time by hand, and it was supposed to be done yesterday. NO, I CAN'T WAIT UNTIL NEXT WEEK. I was insistent, and got my way, but D was real clear that I'm overreacting and being utterly unreasonable. Jackass.

What's black and white and red all over?

A Red Panda!

Well, not really. But the bear is cute.

Oh, Canada

I chose my earrings this morning hoping to charm the Canadian government into publishing the schedules they promied weeks ago.

I should have known better. My charms always boomerang.
Hey! Maybe if I got some boomerang earrings, they would create a double-reverse function that would allow me to do some effective magical thinking! Oh, wait...

I think they're playing quarters

Or something very like it, anyway. Every so often a group shriek wafts across the airshaft, as though someone had just scored a difficult shot.

Ah, youth and drunken merriment.
I wish they'd hurry up and get old and dour and go to bed early.

Brilliant Candlemas, everyone!

According to ancient lore I found on some random website, February 2 is the day that bears and wolves come out of hibernation. And groundhogs. Except, wolves don't actually hibernate, and most animals don't keep to the Gregorian calendar. So, yeah. But it sounded good.

M and I went to the DeYoung today, and amused ourselves exploring the parking garage (there's a tunnel!) and mocking this mantlepiece. The picture does not do it justice, not at all. The dogs flanking the hearth are anatomically correct. The section above the clock is a full relief of hounds bringing down a boar. The deer on top looks pissed, perhaps because he's got the wrong horns glued to his head. There's this random foliage all over it - I could come up with a theory that fit in the acorns and pomegranates, but the little sprigs of lily-of-the-valley make nonsense of it all. It's truly a thing of joy. We also checked out the Turkmen textiles in the Dimly Lit Gallery. Those Turkmen (well, Turkwomen, actually) could really knot a rug.

-tonight, my adorable local entire family took me to Chez Panisse. Yummy, yummy, yummy. Happy, well-fed me! I gyre and gimble with delight.

Today's acquisitions: 1 Klein hat, 4 pairs earrings, and one "oh yeah, I've been to Chez Panisse" credit.
