SCIENCE!
We went to see Neil DeGrasse Tyson at the Palace of Fine Art. Among the SCIENCE! he spoke of turtles all the way down (Dan'l told it better). After, we stopped at Mel's for munchies.
I think we're on for brunch this Saturday.

Got stuff done
Mailed my taxes, moved my computer so the sun won't be rising over it any more, even got through a decent amount of work.

Happy Ides of March!
And also, Dan Luten's Brithday.
I decided to mark the day by trying out the bar & grill that just opened in Hallidie Plaza. The kitchen seems to be doing ok, but the counter staff do not yet have the hang of the registers.

False alarm
Yesterday's big alarums were d/t me looking at the wrong file. Up side: we do not have to add 9,000 lines one at a time by hand. Down side: some customer is still pestering IT for an update I can't find.
And I have to lead a seminar on Excel tomorrow at 2.

I have the technology
Went to Tanforan with b2, came home with a new (flat) tv and a dvd player that works. Spent the rest of the afternoon and evening watching Supernatural season 4. The world is good.

Eternal vigilance, or, someone should hire some proofreaders
The USITC posted fourteen changes today, and five of those changes have conspicuous errors. There may be more mistakes that I just haven't found yet.

Nesting
This weekend, I got almost all my paper tucked into discreet little black boxes that fit neatly into the fronts of the window seats. And it is good.
But I keep thinking up more stuff to want. It's not good.

Camera
16c., in Mod.L. camera obscura "dark chamber" (a black box with a lens that could project images of external objects), from L. camera "vaulted room," from Gk. kamara "vaulted chamber," from PIE base *kam- "to arch." Contrasted with camera lucida (L., "light chamber"), which uses prisms to produce an image on paper beneath the instrument, which can be traced. Shortened to camera when modern photography began, 1840 (extended to television filming devices 1928).
Camera-shy is from 1922.

Saving Grace
The new season permiered tonight. I've gotten to like the show, despite TNT's lousy advertising. (Seriously, when the ads run in the middle of the show, I change the channel, they're so bad.) Anyway - what I like are the little things, like the collection jar perched on a counter near the office door. It wasn't mentioned in the dialogue at all. The characters talked about the guy for whom the collection was being taken, and they slipped cash into the jar in passing, but the scriptwriters restrained themselves from having the characters explain it to the dim-witted in the audience. I like that.

Deep Thoughts
We were talking tonight about the fractal nature of Disneyland. How everywhere you look inside the park, there's always more to see. Was Walt a an experimental geometer? Inquiring minds want to know.

Happy Inauguaral!
Dude, it's been a totally frabjous day. There were all these petty annoyances - starting with me spilling coffee on the front of my pale green shirt first thing in the morning and the spot nagging away at my peripheral vision all day - but I was still obnoxiously cheerful.
Kinda like these people.

That's much better.
I'm not all that enthused about Obama - he's said some things, and voted for some stuff, that I am still way not happy about - but OMG I am SO INCREDIBLY cap-locking HAPPY that he won, in a landslide, sweeping Democrats into office behind him all over the place. Maybe we can start inching back away from the Pit now.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed about Prop 8.
eta: I am totally enthused about Michelle Obama as First Lady. Damn, but that woman has poise. Plus the whole smart & accomplished thing. She's going to be great.

The woman at the next desk is listening to Journey
I guess her headphones came unplugged, or something, because her music is playing loud and clear. "Don't Stop Believing" added an interesting background track to the Cars' "Shake It Up," but "Wheel in the Sky" did nothing good for Michelle Shocked's "Shaking Hands."
Just thought I'd share that with everyone.
Don't stop belee-eevin'
hold on to that feeling, baby
UPDATE, 3pm: I think she went to the gym or something, because she was wearing a perfectly businesslike skirt 'n' top, and now she's in sweats and a Rolling Stones T-shirt. The one with the lolling tongue. Poseur. I know she listens to Journey.
